Important Update about License Renewal
New York City’s Emergency Executive Orders (EEO) that extended license expiration dates and renewal application deadlines because of the COVID-19 pandemic ended. If your license was set to expire from March 12, 2020 through August 14, 2021 and you did not renew due to the Mayoral EEO, your extended license will expire on August 14, 2021.

Important Update about New Local Law
Local Law 80 of 2021 repeals the licensing requirement for Retail Laundries as of December 31, 2021. This repeal does not impact the licensing requirement for Industrial Laundry or Industrial Laundry Delivery.
Even though Retail Laundries will not require a license after December 31, 2021, businesses still need to comply with laws enforced by the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection. Businesses must also continue to comply with other relevant federal, State, and City laws and rules.

Licensing Requirement until December 31, 2021
You must have a Retail Laundry License if your business:
- Provides laundry services to the general public
- Stores or collects laundry for laundry services for the general public

"Laundry services" means washing, drying, starching, or ironing laundry for a fee. It does not include dry cleaning.
You don't need a Retail Laundry License for laundry facilities of any:
- Hospital
- Residence for use by the owners, tenants, or occupants of the residence
If your business will transport laundry between commercial clients and industrial laundries, you will also need an Industrial Laundry License or an Industrial Laundry Delivery License. You don't need a Laundry Driver License.
To learn more about the licenses, go to the Industrial Laundry License page or the Industrial Laundry Delivery License page.
