Marriage Licenses and Ceremonies

Through the Project Cupid website, you and your future spouse can schedule an:

  • In-person or virtual marriage license appointment
  • In-person marriage ceremony

Virtual marriage ceremonies are no longer available.

Project Cupid allows couples to schedule and attend a virtual appointment with the City Clerk’s Office, upload required documents for the license, and submit the signed license after completing the marriage ceremony. Couples must be together physically for their virtual appointment.

New appointments open up weekly and you should regularly check the Project Cupid website for new availability.

Marriage License Copies

If you need a duplicate marriage license, and you received it:

  • Through a Project Cupid virtual appointment, you can log in to your Project Cupid account to pay the fee and print a copy. 
  • In person at the Manhattan City Clerk office, you must make an appointment and visit the office to pay the fee and get a copy.

The fee is $25 by credit card, debit card (Visa or MasterCard), or money order payable to the City Clerk.

Report a problem with a marriage license.

The Office of the City Clerk performs marriage ceremonies throughout the day in all five City Clerk borough offices. You do not need an appointment. You, your prospective spouse, and witness should arrive between 8:30 AM and 3:15 PM, Monday through Friday. The cost is $25, payable by credit/debit card or money order.

To get married at the City Clerk's Office, you must bring all of the following: 

  • A valid New York State Marriage License
  • At least one witness over the age of 18
  • Credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express), debit card (Visa, MasterCard), or money order of $25, payable to the City Clerk

You, your prospective spouse, and at least one witness must bring the same type of photo identification that was used to obtain the Marriage License.

If you or your prospective spouse is under the age of 18, the parents of both you and your prospective spouse must be present and have proper identification.

In Manhattan, there can be no more than 10 attendees, including you and your prospective spouse. In all other boroughs, there can be no more than 5 attendees, including you and your prospective spouse.

Once the civil marriage ceremony is complete, you will get a Marriage Certificate on that same day.
