You can adopt an animal at any of the three Care Centers of the Animal Care Centers of NYC. They are located in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island.
To adopt an animal, you must:
- Be 18 years old or older.
- Have a photo ID.
- Show proof of your current residence.
- Show proof you are allowed to have animals in the residence if you rent your apartment or house.
Counselors at the Care Centers will help you choose the animal that is best for your lifestyle. If you have children living in your home, they must come to the Care Center and be part of the adoption process. If you already have a dog in your home and you are adopting another dog, it is recommended that you bring your current dog to the Care Center.
ACC can only provide information about animals for adoption at one of its three Care Centers in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Island. Although you are inquiring about a specific animal available for adoption, adoption of any animal is on a first come, first serve basis, in addition to your specific qualifications. You may also go to any ACC Care Center to get more information about animals for adoption.
Fee
Animal Care Centers of NYC has a sliding scale adoption fee that ranges from $25 to $400 depending on the animal that is being adopted. Cash, checks, money orders, and credit cards are accepted.
