You can learn about auctions for surplus New York City fleet vehicles and vehicles seized for unpaid parking tickets or camera violations.

After vehicles are seized because of unpaid parking tickets or camera violations in judgment, they are auctioned off to the public. The owners did not settle their debt, choosing instead to abandon their vehicles.

You cannot buy back your own car at an auction.

To buy one of these vehicles, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Pay for the vehicle in cash as soon as you win the auction

New York City has partnered with Property Room Inc. to auction all City fleet vehicles online.

Online auctions through Property Room remain free and open to the general public. You are no longer required to show up in person at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and wait to place a bid.

The auction offers vehicles and parts to individuals, commercial businesses, and industries.

If the vehicle’s auction price was less than your judgment debt, you are responsible for the remainder of the debt.
