You can get information about free minor home repairs for low- or moderate-income homeowners or tenants age 60 and older. 

These repairs include: 

  • Minor plumbing 
  • Minor carpentry and electrical work 
  • Caulking and weather-stripping of windows and doors
  • Installation or repair of door locks and chains

Major work, such as the installation of a ramp, is not provided.

Depending on individual situations, some condominium or co-op owners may also qualify.

Services are provided by two non-profit organizations. The Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty installs grab bars or assist railings in bathrooms. The New York Foundation for Senior Citizens does not.

  • Major renovations and ramps
  • Installation of air conditioners, ceiling fans, doors, or toilets
  • Fixing appliances
  • Boiler or furnace work
